The CIP group has finalized the procedures for the La Sentiu biogas plant, planning to start construction in early 2026, despite ongoing legal opposition.

After obtaining the definitive environmental authorization and urban planning approval, the biogas plant project promoted by CIP has completed the administrative phase. The company maintains its intention to start construction during the first half of 2026, with an estimated duration of two years.
The plant is designed to transform about 500,000 tons of organic waste annually into biomethane. This waste includes pig slurry, cow and calf manure, chicken litter from local farms, and residues from slaughterhouses and other non-hazardous industrial organic waste from the area.

The air treatment and deodorization system will prevent any emission of odors outside the facilities.

CIP assures that more than 80% of the slurry will come from farms located within a 15-kilometer radius of the plant and that they already have the adherence of over 350 livestock farmers from the regions of Noguera, Pla d’Urgell, and Urgell.
Simultaneously, entities opposed to the project and four town councils in Ponent filed two administrative lawsuits before the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) a week ago. The plaintiffs plan to request precautionary measures to prevent the promoters from starting construction in early 2026.
